Reverser Shaft Brackets

Our friends and contractors at Keyte Smith Ltd have been busy with their machining centre reducing solid metal blocks to reverser shaft brackets.  The reverser shaft fits between the frames and has curved guides to operate the valves.  It is tilted one way to drive the engine forward, and the opposite way to drive it tender-first. The original LNWR brackets were a steel forging, standard across hundreds of engines so quite economical at the time.

We only need two, and forging is not much used today, being quite expensive even with a good production run. For today’s world and to make just two the bracket has been re-invented.  While it may seem wasteful, all the material removed is collected and eventually remanufactured as new steel products.

We have a slide show of 9 slides to show the manufacturing steps. look for the menu bar on opening the file and click the up/down arrows to scroll through the slides.
