Another day of sterling work by Jamie and Paul in the Kirkby-in-Ashfield Erecting Shop sees something like a locomotive taking shape. The left view shows the running plate fitted up after some modifications required for the change from a display unit, and the smokebox fitted. No chimney yet, it’s too high for the door. The temporary steering axle can be seen at the lower right, turned at right angles for convenience.
The photo on the right shows the assembly after fitting the lower cab panel. This cab panel, running plate and splasher were fully painted and lined out for the naming ceremony on Prince George’s first birthday.
We hope to make it to Crewe just in time for the Press day at the Heritage Centre.
