Frame Assembly
With the the team at Keyte Smith, a hard but enjoyable day was spent on the first stage of frame assembly. This has fixed the basic frame alignment for the life of the locomotive, short of a major rebuild. Watch Our Slide Show (15 slides) here
Main Frame Plates, Dragbox, Motion Plate & Frame Stretcher are now bolted up, marking a critical step forward. Any errors in aligning the frame plates can only be remedied by a major strip-down and rebuild, so this had to be done correctly. A great help has been the accuracy of modern machine tools and modern metrology (the science of measurement). Parts supply by CTL Seal and Boro Foundry fitted perfectly, with Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) output of the dragbox from CTL Seal giving us the confidence to use that to achieve alignment.
Thanks to our contractors Keyte Smith Ltd, and our suppliers.
We will be planning another work day to tie up some loose ends and to align the front frame plates to the main assembly.
A great day’s work!
